The trip from Edinburg to San Benito isn’t one of those long drawn out trips that I took as a high school student in the Midwest. However, the importance and the quiet that goes along with one of these trips is a distant comparison to the regular district trips. Each player seems a little more focused on the meaning of the game.
Sitting two seats behind me is Aaron Olvera, a junior, who as everyone knows is my player of the year. Usually upbeat and a joker, he sleeps. Even Steve Trevino, the most intense player on the team looks nothing like the person he’ll become in a few hours.
The newspapers mentioned that this team maybe overlooking this game versus San Benito, but from this bus it doesn’t seem that is the case.
Coach Cuellar, who usually would be talking basketball with me, looks forward, contemplating this evening’s game against legendary coach Roy Garcia.
Cuellar knows that the two wins during the regular season mean nothing now. Each game must be taken with the same seriousness. Last night he gave me an earful when I tried to look at the upcoming match-ups.
I’ll be blogging through out the trip. Highlights tonight will be from McHi vs. Alexander & McAllen Memorial vs. Laredo Martin.
