Edinburg Economedes continue to have tough times these days. The Jaguars have won a combined nine games in the past two seasons. This year seemed like the program would take a step forward until the departure of two of their best players transferred: Mark Esquivel (sr.) (Edinburg North) and Sammy Alvarado (soph.) Edinburg High.
“Our kids still have a positive attitude and will go out and play hard this season,” said J.J. Serda, the former PSJA High School graduate. Serda has been with several programs which have succeeded, including PSJA North and Hidalgo. “We will continue working with the players we have, and we will keep instructing them throughout the season,” added Coach Serda.
Three players return this season: J.C. Garcia (sr.), 2B; Elpidio Vega (sr.), 3B; and Justin Montaño (soph.), P/SS. All three of these players will lead the Jaguars this season. The other players will come from junior varsity and freshman teams last year.
Despite the losses at Economedes, Coach Serda has and will keep doing a great job at Economedes. Coach Serda also has quality assistants in Aaron Guerra and Matthew Benavidez. The Jaguars would love nothing more than to upset a few district opponents in 2010.
