The Raiders finished tied for fourth place with Harlingen South for the final playoff spot, but Harlingen South came out ahead on a tie breaker. The Raiders now have one more year under their belt to jump up a few notches in the district ladder.
“We have a good group of seniors that have been on the varsity for the better part of two seasons,” said Coach Charlie Villegas. “We have some players that have very good leadership skills,” said Coach Villegas.
Josh Hernandez (sr.), OF/P is one of five seniors who will return to give the Raiders a solid ballclub. The other seniors include Jaime Solis, C; Paul Bonilla, SS; Ricky Campos, P/OF; Joseph Lopez, 2B/OF; Luis Lerma, DH/1B. These seniors will be counted on heavily during the 2010 season.
Three other players are going to play very important roles on the Raider team. Jorge Perez (jr.), P/INF; Mike Luna (jr.), INF/P; and Alex Gutierrez (soph.), INF/P are all very capable players.
The Raiders were 7-7 and 13-11 overall in 2010. PSJA North Raiders have gone 16-7 in 2005, 7-17 in 2006, 14-11 in 2007, 11-18 in 2008 to go along with their 13-11 2009 record.
“I believe we have some good players who will allow us to compete this season,” said the 4th year Head Coach Villegas. “I believe PSJA should win our district, but after that, anything can happen,” said Coach Villegas.
