Eddie Garcia is one of the best coaches in our area with or without talent. His teams will always be competitive when itʼs time for district play. “The fact that we lost 12 seniors to graduation last year it is safe to say that we will be very young experience wise,” said the 6th year head coach Eddie Garcia. “If we can have a quality pitching rotation, it will give us a chance to compete. Then we will be ok,” added Coach Garcia.
Leading the way for the Eagles this season will be P/3B, 2nd Team All-District, Chris Buitron(jr.). Buitron will be counted on the mound, at the plate, and in the fi eld this season. Buitron hit .280 as a sophomore with 3 doubles, 2 triples, 16 runs, 5 SB, and 12 RBI. Other players helping the Eagles cause are: Steven Garza (jr.), P/OF/SS; John Little (sr.), 1B; Eric Pacheco (jr.), C; Tre Paz (jr.), SS/P; and Hector Leal (jr.), 2B.
The Eagles were co-district champions last season with the Lopez Lobos going 20-10 overall and 13-1 in district. Hanna defeated Harlingen South in the bi-district round in 2 games before losing to La Joya in a one game playoff in the Area round.
The Eagles have two players currently playing college baseball: Ramesh Ramnarine (09) Graceland University and Gilbert Hinojosa (09) UTB.
“Defensively, we are going to be ok. We will try to manufacture some runs and try to play solid defense this season,” added Coach Garcia. “Our pitching must come through in order for us to compete in this district. Our defense must back up the pitching,” said Coach Garcia.
Hanna looks to achieve the same success they had in the early 90ʼs winning district crowns in 1990, 1993, and 1994.
District 32-5A will be a very competitive district and with Coach Garcia leading the Eagles they should be in the playoff mix.
