The Harlingen Cardinals return 5 starters from last yearʼs 12-13 team. D.J. Guerrero (sr.), RHP/UT, leads the Cards this season. Guerrero hit .367 last year in being named to the 1st team all district list. Adam Davalos (sr.) P/INF is back after having a super year at the plate hitting .426, and he also had one win on the mound. Chris Ramirez (sr.), P/INF, also returns after hitting .419 at the plate and being named to the 2nd team all-district team. Kevin Ledesma (soph.), P/INF, returns after hitting .356. Ledesma is also a good pitcher who will help the Cards this season. Patrick Ibarra (jr.), OF, who hit .318 last season, will round out the returning starters for 2010.
“In order for us to be successful during this 2010 season, the players must step up and perform,” said Coach Kretz. “We have potential, but potential does not win games. The kids will have to bring it every game,” added Coach Kretz.
Other players playing a large role for the Cardinals this year are: Mike Medina (jr.), OF; Carlos Cortez (jr.), OF; Mike Betancourt (sr.), OF; Shane Collier (jr.) P/UT, and Joe Martinez (sr.), 1B.
The Cardinals have three players still playing college ball. Cody Graham and Justin Graham both at UTSA and Keith Hernandez (09) UTB.
The Cardinals will have to look for consistency in order for them to contend for the district title this season. The Cardinals will try to unseat the PSJA Bears for the district title.
