Last year was not a good year for the Panthers. The Panthers were 2-8 last year with only one district victory. For the Weslaco fans this is unacceptable, and also for coach Tony Villarreal. Last year’s youth has matured, and Weslaco now has the most returning starters in the district (O: 9/ D: 10).
Weslaco will look to receiver R.C. Cervantes for leadership this year, as he helps Randy Lopez (qb) adjust to the pace of 32-5A. Cervantes was Weslaco’s go to offensive target last year and the Panthers will need a big year out of him if they want to win district.
