Figueroa to Fight on Fox Sports

omar figueroa cruz

It’s time for Omar Figueroa boxing fans to start planning a visit to San Antonio.  “I hope Valley fans plan a little road trip to San Antonio March 2nd,” Omar Figueroa Jr. said via a phone interview from his training camp in Cochella, CA.  On that date Omar (19-0-1, 15ko’s) will be fighting Henry Aurad (14-6-1, 11-ko’s) at Our Lady of the Lake University Gym the fight will also be televised on Fox Deportes.
In 2012 Omar fought six times in seven months winning five fights by ko.  His last fight was against Dominic Salcido on July 21st he won that bout in a 10 round unanimous decision.  Omar doesn’t expect any ring rust when he fights again in March.  “I’ve been doing this for such a long time I just jumped right back into it, it doesn’t go away.”  Before the Salcido fight Omar had knocked out four of his opponents in the first or second round.  He started 2012 on national television with a ko victory over fellow Golden Boy fighter Michael Perez who was previously unbeaten at 16-0.  Because of his amateur career which includes a 2008 National Golden Gloves championship Perez was considered a rising star with Golden Boy.
Omar has been training in California since early January with Joel Diaz, “it has been awesome starting from zero to now it feels great becoming that elite athlete again.  We have been sprinting, running, hiking and sparring Joel says I’m looking grea,” Omar said.

Omar says his goals for 2013 are, “just to give 100%.  If Golden Boy sets the fight then I will give it my best.”  For right now he is giving it his all for Saturday March 2nd in San Antonio.
