PSJA’s Aerial Attack Downs Edinburg, Keeps Bears Unbeaten

During one spellbinding five-minute span in the third quarter at Richard Flores Stadium Thursday night, PSJA and Edinburg traded alternating touchdowns of 81, 71, 15, and 70 yards apiece.

But by that time, the game was no longer in doubt, as the Bears opened with a 28-0 salvo from which the Bobcats could never recover, and PSJA won their seventh straight game, 45-28.

Bears junior quarterback Trey Guajardo accounted for all six PSJA touchdowns, one on the ground, and five through the air, two of those to his cousin, Marco Guajardo, and two more to senior Nathan Sanchez.

PSJA remains unbeaten at 7-0, 4-0 in district, tied with fellow unbeaten Edinburg Vela atop the 31-6A standings. Next for the Bears is Tri-City rival PSJA Memorial, Friday October 27th at PSJA Stadium in Pharr.

PSJA Primed And Ready For Title Tilt With Edinburg Vela

After a 3-7 season in 2016, and a brand new coach taking over the reins in 2017, not many observers picked PSJA to be in contention for a district title so soon.

Yet, here are the Bears, unbeaten, untied, and undaunted by the prospect of taking on similarly undefeated Edinburg Vela Thursday night in a de facto 31-6A title game.

First year head coach Lupe Rodriguez says everything he and his coaching staff has done since taking the position at PSJA has been preparing his team for this kind of big stage, and he believes his team will not shirk from the spotlight.

The Bears worked out Wednesday on the turf of PSJA Stadium in Pharr in anticipation of the showdown with the SaberCats, and while to a man they say they respect the perennial power Vela has become, they also say they believe they have what it takes to be 9-0 once the final whistle blows.
