Brownsville Lopez hope that a drop in districts to 32-5A from 32-6A will propel them to the playoffs. “We always have high expectations and we have the district title as our goal. With only two seniors in the line-up we know we have a big challenge in front of us,” said Coach Martinez. “We will depend on the veteran arm of Alex Olguin and the combination of other pitchers to compete. With good defense behind our pitching and we will use small ball as our offense. We feel that we can make some noise in our initial season in 32-5A,” added Coach Martinez. Other leaders for the Lobos this season will be Abraham Gonzalez, Hector Serna, and Marco Ibarra. In the last nine seasons the Lobos have gone 22-8 (2009) 1st place; 28-6 (2010) 1st place; 11-14 (2011) 6th place; 7-18 (2012) 8th place; 14-13 (2013) 5th place; 4-17 (2014) 9th place; 11-11-2 (2015) 5th; and last season 10-13-2 7th place. The Lobos will battle Porter, Pace, Brownsville Veterans, Edcouch-Elsa and Mercedes for the playoff spots this season. With an ace like Olguin their chances look good in 2017.
