We will be taking individual pictures for the 2011 Dave Campbell’s Texas Football

Magazine, filling out questionnaires, and taking height and weight measurements.

MK:  When I went to visit the campus I just fell in love. The pictures of the campus don’t do it justice. The history in those buildings is unreal. This line hooked me “At West Point, much of the history we teach was made by the people we taught”. I want to make history, and I feel this is a great avenue for that.
The people there are great and the coaches are inspiring. I felt right at home and it will challenge me to reach my potential as an athlete and more importantly, a person.

956sports.com: Most people don’t understand the commitment it takes to go to one of the Service Academies, but your going to arguably the hardest of all of them. Did you have to do a lot of soul searching before you decided? What did you dad think?

MK: This was the hardest decision I have had to make in my entire life. I made this decision with the rest of my life in mind. West Point is the best place in the country to go to school. My dad doesn’t like my military commitment after I graduate, but I feel like that is something I will grow from.

956sports.com: What is the depth chart like at Army? Is there any chance of you seeing the field the first year?

MK:  They have an incoming senior who has started since his freshman year. They also have a senior and sophomore backup. I will be attending the prep school next year, so no, there won’t be a chance with the varsity. I will be playing a full schedule with the prep school.

956sports.com: Are you going to be able to do track as well as football?

MK:  They originally spotted me as a pole vaulter. They do encourage dual sport athletes, but we haven’t talked about that.

956sports.com: How bad does Army want to beat Navy and Airforce?

MK:  When you go to the campus, that is all you see. Signs saying beat Navy and beat Air Force are everywhere.

956sports.com: Will you lead Army to a win against Navy and Airforce during your 4 years there?

MK:  Beating Navy and Air Force will be the very first things we will do. My plans are way higher than that though.

956sports.com: As the son of a former Lieutenant Colonel in the Army, what MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) do you want to pursue? Could you see yourself as a grunt (infantry)?

MK:  I am not sure what MOS I want to pursue. I can see myself taking that path, but that is one of the reasons my dad doesn’t want me to go. He thinks I will go infantry and be on the front lines.

956sports.com: How proud were your coaches and family when you selected Army?

MK:  We have two marines on our coaching staff, and I feel like they really appreciate what I am doing. My mom was really excited when I FINALLY made my decision. My dad is very proud but reserved, I don’t think it has hit him yet.
