Al Hayman, who graduated from Harvard with a degree in economics, at one time was one of the top concert promoters in the country working with artist such as Whitney Houston, M.C. Hammer, Mary J, Blige he also co-promoted Eddie Murphy’s “Raw” tour.

Hayman’s stable of boxers includes the biggest name in boxing over the past 10 year Mayweather.  He also manages the careers of other boxers including Andre Berto, Paul Williams, Jermian Taylor, Adrien Broner and Gary Russell Jr.

Hayman contacted Omar Figueroa Sr. after watching his son defeat two top prospects in dominating fashion on Showtime over a three-month period.  On January 6^th Omar defeated Michael Perez who was previously unbeaten at 15-0-1 and favored to beat Omar.  Perez took some brutal body blows from Omar and could not answer the bell after the 6^th.  On March 16^th Omar beat Ramon Ayala who was 23-2-1, Omar won the fight in a 2nd round KO.

Omar’s father Omar Sr. will continue to co-manage. He will also train his son along with Joel Diaz who is out of Southern California. Right now Omar is in California training for his May 5^th fight.

Omar is still being promoted by Golden Boy promotions.

In a clash of jr middleweights coming off their first losses, James De la Rosa (21-1, 12 KOs) won an eight round unanimous decision over Tyrone Brunson (21-2-1, 20 KOs). Brunson was credited with a knockdown in round two, but De la Rosa was in command for most the fight.

Pharr’s Enrique Alvarez and Mission native and amateur sensation Isaac Torres will step in the ring as a pro for the first time and Raul “El Tigre” Casarez (18-2, 9 KO’s) of Edinburg will be battle tested in the main event as Golden Boy Promotions, in association with Don Chargin Productions, Telefutura and Marines Promotions presents “Fight Night Showdown” on Saturday, March 17^th at the Pharr Events Center.

Boxing trainer James Gogue works with all three fighters and said that they will definitely be ready come fight night.

“I have worked with these guys on a daily basis and they are ready to go,” said Gogue. “Enrique has been training with me since he was 13 years old. He has over 30 amateur fights and has sparred against some of the best fighters in the Valley. Enrique brings a pro style to the ring and he has definitely earned this right. Isaac is totally different than Enrique though. Isaac has over 225 amateur fights, has won 14 national titles, has beaten some of the top amateurs in the nation and fought in the U.S. Olympic Trials in 2012. Isaac is a very mature fighter and has pro ability and talent.”

“As for Raul, he is going to be in a tough test. His opponent J.C. Candelo (30-10-4, 21 KO’s) is a proven veteran fighter and has faced some of the best fighters in the world. In fact, he lost a close fight to Winky Wright for the world title back in 2003. However, Raul has been working hard in the gym and has had some good sparring work with James De La Rosa and Robert Garcia. Raul needs this test to evaluate where he is at. This fight will prove is he is ready to get to the next level.”
