E-E, Port Isabel Ranked in THSCA Preseason Region IV Football Poll

(EDCOUCH) – When the newly released Texas High School Coaches Association Preseason Football Poll came out on Monday, two Valley teams were ranked amongst the top in their respective classes.

Edcouch-Elsa was ranked the higher of the two as they came in seventh with a total of 25 points in the Class 5A, Region IV poll.

The Jackets are looking to build off of their impressive playoff run in which they went three rounds deep in 2015 and come into this season with a wealth of talent on both sides of the ball.

Marco Aguinaga will be one of the main players to watch for E-E as the senior quarterback looks to be one of the best in the region and has all of the tools to lead them to another deep run in 2016.

Defensively, the Jackets are led by their two All-State selections which consist of defensive tackle Seth Garcia and linebacker Joel Cardoza.

The other team who gained recognition in Region IV was Port Isabel who came in eighth in Class 4A, Division II. The Tarpons are bringing back five starters on offense and five on defense with their main contributor being Omar Silva. On offense, Silva totaled 1,500 yards and had 16 touchdowns to his credit.

Defensively, Silva totaled 45 tackles for the Tarpons in 2015.

Port Isabel ended up in the playoffs last year and saw their season come to an end at the hands of Cuero who advanced all the way to the state semifinals.
