Edinburg North defeated Harlingen 11-7 in a back-and-forth affair on Saturday.
The game was tied at seven with The Cougars batting in the top of the seventh when Saul Garza hit a grand slam off of Justin Reta, driving in four runs.
Saul Garza led The Cougars to victory by driving in seven runs. He went 3-for-4 at the plate. Garza drove in runs on a home run in the fifth, a triple in the sixth, and a grand slam in the seventh.
North captured the lead in the first inning. Jose Salinas drove in one when he singled in the first inning.
Harlingen knotted the game up at seven in the bottom of the sixth inning. Justin Reta singled on a 0-1 count in the sixth inning, scoring one run.
Garza earned the win for Edinburg North Cougars Varsity. He went two innings, surrendering one run, one hit, and striking out two. Reta took the loss for Harlingen. He pitched one and one-third innings, giving up four runs, two hits, and striking out one.
Matt Sesler started the game for Harlingen. He tossed five and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs, eight hits, and striking out two. Argelio Guajardo started the game for Edinburg North Cougars Varsity. He pitched four innings, allowing six runs, nine hits, and striking out three.
North collected ten hits. Garza, Salinas, Giancarlo Servin, and Jonathan Salas each collected multiple hits for Edinburg North Cougars Varsity. Salinas and Garza.
Harlingen had ten hits in the game. Nathan Ramon, Boedy Flores, and Marco Hernandez each collected multiple hits for Harlingen.
