yea it will prove itself when Sharyland has a bunch of kids who have played the game and enjoyed the game and continued to play the game in HS. As opposed to other areas where some kids were excluded because they werent "good Enough, or big enough or fast enough" to play for that super team in youth football. Those kids who were excluded or didnt get a chance to play wil drop out of sports all together and do other things that are much more convienient for them. Studies have proven it, I have seen it and unfortunately I have been the cause of it as a young coach who just wanted to nothing but win and take only players who were "GOOD". Thankfully I have learned that whats important is to teach the sport.
You see that kid who may be the superstud now is that because he most likely has matured early. Some kids do have talent and always will, but the majority of the time it's because they have matured faster than their peers. Now when the other kids catch up to him its all a level field. Here's a little secret about those early bloomers too. Many times their work ethic is crap beacuse they didnt have to work as hard in little league or Jr High ball because they were physically mature, where that other kid had to work their butts off to makethe team or become a starter. Now here comes HS and guess what that "Stud" kid is lazy and feels entitled but the hard working kids is now actuially better, works harder and is willing to do anything the coach asks. Guess who the head coach will pick to start the game?
Trust me fellas I get what your saying about D1 and D2. But it really doesnt have any bearing on how well they will play in HS. A good team is a good team no matter where they play. 1A -2A 4A or 5A. One day when Sharyland Youth Football has teams that has played together for 4-5 years together like some other teams in TYFA here in the Valley maybe we will be D1. I choose to train them all equally and let is show later. there ya go thats my soapbox for the day. See all yall this weekend at the games.Life is just a football field marked out in 100 yard increments

I agree with Mustang.. The Kids who are "studs" Alot of times are your team captains as well. They along with the rest of the team are expected to work hard , But especially those team leaders who are expected to Work harder and set an example as a leader. In short all kids work hard.. So When they get to the Jr High, High school level They know the meaning of hard work and will continue to put their best foot forward in Practice and games.
I tell my kids all the time " Practice Hard, Play Hard" This doesn't change whether its in a Local city League or a TYFA team. It really does come down to Youth coaches . Its called Discipline . Teach them to have Discipline in everything , From Drills to running plays, To How they come onto the field and you'll be teaching Them to do their best on and Off the field.

i know i will hear the comments after i post this but i ride ALL the lazy kids the same everyday, all day, without regard to their parents. because it lazy kids are not born they are babied by their parents and families. so even if a kid is a stud it doesnt really mean he will be lazy. even my own kid i am constantly pushing so he will learn that hard work is whats needed to get to where he wants to be. so yes its your coach that teaches you about hustle and heart. sometimes the parents though make it hard for a coach to teach his team that part of game because all they do is make excuses. damn that is the worst thing for coaches. i love helping kids and teaching them but parents have pushed me to limits and made me question why i go out there and focus on team instead of my own. moral of the story is that sometimes programs would rather not deal with that lazy less talented kid not because of the kid but because of the cancerous parent that will turn an entire team into a revolutionary movement. i just hope your not the type of coach rattler that listens to daddy ballers complain and rant about why their kid should be the starting qb that only runs bootlegs. when you put your kid around winning attitude and tradition they grow up learning that feeling and wanting that when things are not going well...which in turn makes them work harder to get that emotional high back.

We dont have a problem with kids or parents believing in the program. Most of our kids returned and we filled the rest in a week during registrations. 110 kids registered. We have spoken extensivly to the school AD and he has supported us as well as the coaches from the school. Even offering any assistance they can. Its a slow roll to build something from the ground up. Especially when we take any kid who is willing to strap on the pads and give it a try. We learned some lessons the first year and made adjustments for this year.
Im looking forward to this year because we should have just a handfull of players who do not have any experience and the majority who have at least one year behind them. Last year we had just a handfull of the kids who had actually played football. Should make a difference and we can expand from the very basic fundamentals to expanding our teaching a little more now that the kids know whats going on and what to expect.Life is just a football field marked out in 100 yard increments
