If I may, why is it the coach who is narrow minded? If I'm not mistaken the high school coaches are not allowed to coach 7 on 7. So if the kids wanted to do it they can organize themselves. All it takes is a few fathers and dedicated players and you have a team. Just a thought.....

Dont forget easts soccer program, swimming, wrestling, even basketball championships, but I digress, yea wed like to get outta the third round like highs been wanting to get out of the second round, but the fact is cedar park is no easy task for anybody. I actually belive there only second to lake travis in state 4a. Thats not to say east wont try when it gets to that level, but you would need a perfect game and a couple of breaks cause your playing bigger athletes and possibly better coaching. Tough task for any valley team.

First of all it was rival that mentioned the defensive factor not you town crier. You just hung on to rivals explanation which was a good one cause I always saw 7 on 7 as more to work on offensive and keeping in shape. Its al in the panther thread page 8 ibelive.

Burgett? And that's cause he's not even the head coach, but he's got a stranglehold on that program and its decision making, and its probably fear that the players don't make their own team, fear of getting kicked off the team or something because they know how Burgett feels about it, but like I said hope that changes.

i don't think the harlingen cardinals have done much in 7-7, and we all know the rest of the story.

Nah its true they haven't, but you can't say getting those extra reps and timing down between the qb and his recievers didn't help them out come the regular season or on their pass coverage. Its really not about winning and losing 7-7 games as much as its about just them being out there and staying active during the summer, getting those extra reps on both sides of the ball, and just being competitive.

Don't get me wrong he's a damn good coach, and you can tell he gets his players pumped every Friday night. He's a big reason why Weslaco East has had some success recently. But hes made it known that he doesn't want his kids playing 7-on-7, but he'd rather them be in the weight room. And I'm sure the kids listen to what he preaches. The last few years, East has brought monster O-Lines which have been able to open holes for multiple 1,000yd rushers. There's no question they can run. Their defense as well has been improved. The only thing they lack is a passing game. If they could produce a dual threat QB with some good WRs they would definitely be a force to be wreckoned with.
Unfortunately their game plan pretty much looks like this. Run up the middle. Run to the left. Run up the middle. Run run run. And sure with a top notch Oline and RB that'll get you W's in the valley, maybe even a few outside of, but it won't get you past the Region's top teams.

Wow hunter thanks for saying it pretty much they way it is with coach burget. He is a damn good coach and he does emphasize weight training and as bunter has said has worked well for east. But I have to disagree with you on east not passing. East averaged 9-11 passes a game this year, which was part of easts success. As far as not being able to get out of the region thats another story. Like ive said before east has gtten past there coastal bend playoff opponents the past two years but theyve met a great cedar park team twice. Like ive said many times cedar park is only second to lake travis in 4a football. In order to come out of region four u would have to beat cedar park and then lake travis thats a tough order for anyteam. Those team are huge and physical. East will continue to succeed and hopefully can find a way round those good austin teams, or now if east gets that far on those san antonio teams being in 5a.

Youre right in what you say about Weslaco high at that if our coaches in both school would not be so narrow minded we would have a more blance attack your so call burgett and toni v for that matter stick to what has gotten them sucess here locally. Heck even the Nfl has gone away from the run but it is needed to keep your oppt D in check. Weslaco east and weslaco high need to come out of that funk that the run is where is at. That is so 90's like they say. If burgett or even toni think that the run is going to take them to a DC in this district you have another thing coming.

Ok lets agree to disagree here. Toni has it to his disposol yet Coach Cuellar who is still the coach and will be until he decide to leave, never establish it during the off season If when they do try it. They look like chicken witout a head weslaco east that is. Ohh and the reason you guys had no chance with Cedar when you run the ball 90% of the time you end up letting the other team put 8 inside the box. Weslaco coaches will have success down here up state they won't. Dont get me wrong Burgett is a good coach and so is Toni but only down here. What the school broad is going to do and so is the rest of the city is this you taken us to the post season what have you done for me lately kind of thing.
