The Pirates fell 6-3 to Robstown on Thursday despite out-hitting them eight to seven.
The Pirates took an early lead in the first inning. An error scored one run for Hidalgo.
In the bottom of the second inning, Hidalgo tied things up at three. Hidalgo scored one run when Dylan Doughtery doubled with two outs in the second inning.
The Cotton Pickers took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth A Kwiatkowski singled off of Samuel Jimenez, driving in one run.
Robstown scored three runs in the second inning. The Cotton Pickers’s big inning was driven by a single by J Velazquez and a double by J Molina.
J Garcia earned the win for Robstown. He threw seven innings, allowing three runs, eight hits, striking out nine, and walking one. Jimenez took the loss for Hidalgo. He went five innings, giving up five runs, seven hits, and striking out four.
The Pirates had eight hits in the game. Raul Robles, Doughtery, and Jimenez each collected multiple hits for Hidalgo. Jimenez, Doughtery, and Robles each managed two hits to lead Hidalgo. The Pirates didn’t commit a single error in the field. Raul Ortiz had six chances in the field, the most on the team.
Molina led Robstown with two runs batted in. He went 1-for-1 on the day. The Cotton Pickers tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Molina led the way with three.
