(MISSION) – Mission Veterans Noel Vela gave each every pitcher he faced headaches whenever he came up to the plate.
And after looking at his numbers, it’s pretty obvious that there weren’t very many cures to those headaches for the pitchers.
Vela racked up an astonishing .538 batting average, had 43 RBI’s, 6 home runs and scored 44 runs in the 2016 season for the Patriots.
Thanks to his impressive numbers, Vela received huge postseason honors as he was named to the First Team as a First Baseman on the Texas Sports Writers Association Class 5A All-State List as it was officially released late last week.
One other Valley baseball player joined Vela on the prestigious list as Donna High’s Trey Ramirez was selected as a Second Team Outfielder.
In the 4A ranks, Port Isabel’s Trey Mock and Joe Martinez represented their school as All-State picks. Mock was selected as a Second Team Designated Hitter while Martinez was an Honorable Mention Pitcher.
Rio Hondo’s Robert Gonzalez made the cut as he was a Third Team Designated Hitter and Hidalgo’s Mike Alvarez completed the picks he was named an Honorable Mention First Baseman.
