Here are the Week 10 Power Rankings, as we enter the final two weeks of the season.
Narro’s Weekly Power Rankings Week 10
15.) Weslaco East- East is one of three teams with a (2-3) district record. East would need to win their final two games and get some help in order to claim the fourth spot in 32-6A.
14.) Edinburg High-The Bobcats clinched a playoff berth for the first time since the 2011 season. EHS has PSJA North and PSJA SW remaining on their schedule.
13.) Edcouch-Elsa-Oh the Whirlwind that is 32-5A. The Jackets got back on track with a win Friday night. The district title is not impossible, but E-E has put themselves back in the thick of the playoff race.
12.) Rio Hondo-Rio Hondo remains perfect in district play after a win over Raymondville who was also (2-0). Its quite possible for the Bobcats to run the table in 16-4A.
11.) Mercedes-After an emotional win over E-E, the Tigers ran into a hot Lopez squad. Three teams sit at 4-1, buckle up Mid-Valley it’s going to be a wild final two weeks of the season.
10.) Brownsville Lopez-The Lobo’s where bound to crack the Top 15. I believe its time to jump the Lopez bandwagon as my colleague stated last week. Lopez will travel to the Black Hole Friday night.
9.) Brownsville Veterans Memorial-Winners of three straight after falling to Mercedes, the Chargers are in the thick of a district title. 32-5A is the most interesting district by far? maybe? the final two weeks will determine that discussion.
8.) Mission Veterans-The Patriots came off their bye week, and picked up a much needed win against a tough RGC team. Landry Gilpin had a monster game in the process, which can make this offense just as explosive.
7.) Weslaco- Weslaco is (3-2) in district and in control of their own destiny. Two tough opponents await the Panthers in the final two weeks, San Benito and Los Fresnos.
6.) PSJA North-The Raiders went toe to toe with one of the top offenses in the RGV. PSJA North suffered their first loss of the year, but still sit pretty at (4-1) in 31-6A.
5.) Pioneer-The Train continues to roll over at Pioneer High. After their loss to Nixon, the D’Backs are winners of four straight. Pioneer will finish their season out west when they travel to Laredo Martin and Roma.
4.) McAllen Memorial-The Mustangs remain a top the 30-6A standings and are looking for more. The Stangs welcome in a Huskies squad Thursday night who is eyeing a playoff spot.
3.) Edinburg Vela-Vela proved they are still the team to beat in 31-6A. I covered both offenses from last season and this season, and I can’t decide on which one is more explosive. Either way this offense is high powered and the defense is beginning to click.
2.) Harlingen-The Cardinal offense managed to score two touchdowns in each quarter. While the defense held Los Fresnos to eight second half points.
1.) San Benito-The Hounds are now the lone unbeaten team in the RGV. The final two weeks are as important as the first two. San Benito takes on Weslaco in Week 10 then the Battle of the Arroyo in the final week of the regular season.
Teams to keep an eye on: Port Isabel,Sharyland,Rio Grande City,Edinburg Economedes, Los Fresnos
