Narro’s Weekly Power Rankings Week 9

15) Edinburg High-The Bobcats are (3-1) in district, and are the biggest surprise in 31-6A. First year head coach JJ Leija has his troops believing and playing hard. A matchup against rival Edinburg North awaits, with playoff implications on the line.

14.) Edcouch-Elsa-Around this time last year, E-E had dropped back to back games. The Jackets find themselves in a familiar spot this year. I believe the same DNA is instilled in this years team to turn things around.

13.)-Rio Hondo-The Bobcats took control of 16-4A with a convincing win over West Oso. The Bobcats will do battle for first place when they take on Raymondville.

12.) Sharyland-No time to panic in Rattler country. Sharyland will now head west for a 31-5A tilt vs Laredo Nixon, who lost their first district game vs Rio Grande City.

11.)Brownsville Veterans Memorial-The Chargers are coming off of two big wins vs E-E and Lopez. BVM has now put themselves in prime position for a post season berth.

10.) Mission Veterans-The Patriots are coming off a bye, and will welcome in a red hot RGC squad. This game has 31-5A playoff implications.

9.) Weslaco-The Panthers rebounded in a big way Saturday night. Weslaco is (2-2) while Harlingen South (1-3) will be playing for their season. It will be a tough task for the Panthers against a quick tempo offense.

8.) Brownsville St. Joseph-Thus begins a three week stretch for the Bloodhounds. St. Joe will face off against Central Catholic who’s dropped five straight.

7.) Sharyland Pioneer-Pioneer continues to roll in 31-5A. There is a three way tie for first place, meanwhile Pioneer looks to keep their hot streak going vs Valley View.

6.) Mercedes-What a difference a month makes. Mercedes is (4-0) in district, and the defense is forcing turnovers and giving Zach Gomez and Co. extra possessions. The Tigers will now face a (3-1) Lopez squad who’s aiming to rebound after a loss in week 8.

5.) PSJA North-The week has come, the top defense vs the top offense. Thursdays game vs Vela will put the winner in the lone driver seat in 31-6A.

4.) McAllen Memorial-We wondered what the Mustangs would do vs a tough defense in La Joya, Memorial answered in a big way posting 45 points in the win. Memorial remains unbeaten in 30-6A and remains the team to beat.

3.) Edinburg Vela-The Sabercats will ride their momentum into PSJA Stadium Thursday night. Again, it will be a battle for first place in 31-6A. This will be the toughest challenge yet for Nate Garcia and Co.

2.) Harlingen-The Cardinals remained perfect in 32-6A. Over their four game win streak the defense is yielding just 10 points per game.

1.) San Benito-The Greyhounds are one of two remaining unbeaten teams left in the RGV. The Hounds just keep winning and its not even close, San Benny gets Hanna this week before they close out the season with Weslaco and Harlingen.
