Rio Grande City has built itself into a very good baseball town after going (7-17) in 2009, (14-17) in 2010, 25-9 district co-champions with Roma in 2011, and (24-7) losing to Corpus Christi Ray in bi-district (5-4, 2-3, 8-2).  This season the Rattlers return a large portion of the 2012 team led by Victor Fuentes, Eloy Villarreal, and George Marroquin (who made 1st team all-state last year).  The 2013 Rattler will have a new coach in Salvador Hernandez Jr., who was an assistant coach last season in Rio Grande City.  Hernandez knows the players which could prove to be a very smooth transition this year.  “The Key to having a successful season is having a good support staff and team unity, loyalty and team work,” said 1st year coach Hernandez.  The Rattlers have been district champions the last two seasons and 2013 looks no different.  The district title will have to be run through Rio Grande City in order to take the title.
