Tigers Goes Down On Final Play Against Valley View

It came down to the last play, but Mercedes was on the wrong end of a 2-1 defeat to Valley View on Saturday. The game was tied at one with Valley View batting in the bottom of the seventh when Chezzare Gonzalez singled off of Pedro Hernandez, driving in one run.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Valley View pitchers struck out four, while Mercedes sat down one

Tigers  captured the lead in the first inning. Jaime Rodriguez drove in one when he singled in the first inning.

Valley View evened things up at one in the bottom of the first inning. Jared Ornelas grounded out, scoring one run.

Rogelio Arratia earned the win for Valley View. He threw seven innings, allowing zero runs, three hits, striking out four, and walking zero. Pedro Hernandez took the loss for Mercedes. He pitched six and a third innings, allowing two runs, 11 hits, and striking out one.

Chezzare Gonzalez started the game for Valley View. He pitched, surrendering one run, three hits, and walking zero.

Tigers  collected six hits. Rodriguez and Oliver Closner each collected multiple hits for Mercedes. Closner and Rodriguez all had two hits to lead the Tigers.


Valley View had 11 hits in the game. Fernando Rodriguez, Ediberto Reyes, and Esteban Palomo each collected multiple hits for Valley View.
