(MERCEDES) – After spending two hours on the football field early Tuesday morning, Mercedes head football coach Roger Adame made sure his team heard his message loud and clear.
“Are you tired,” said Adame. “You can’t be tired. We have too much work to do.”
Adame and the Tigers hit the field at 6 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday morning as they were preparing for the 2016 football season which is right around the corner.
“We start early in the morning and do it for a reason,” said Adame. “We want to get these guys out here and see that they are committed to the cause. In fact, some of these kids are getting out here the same time that the coaches are reporting.”
“I know they are excited and we are excited to get a new season underway.”
The Tigers enter this season with high hopes once again as bring back a ton of talent on both sides of the ball.
“We are fortunate to have some excellent talent on both offense and defense and have a ton of kids back with experience as well,” said Adame. “Not to mention we have some leaders coming back and they are really taking the reins of this team while setting an example for the younger kids.”
“That’s huge because these kids can relate to the leaders on the field and feed off of their enthusiasm. We are expecting big things on both sides of the ball this season.”
During the pre-season, Adame said that he and his coaches are concentrating on the little things that will make his team stronger.
“We want to be smart and fundamentally sound on both sides of the football,” said Adame. “We are stressing the importance of fundamentals on offense and defense and are also adding a few more wrinkles as well.”
“These kids have been working extremely hard over the past two days and I am pleased with the effort so far. The kids have been hustling and I like the competition that I am seeing as well amongst them. These guys are fired up and can’t wait to get into pads within the next few days.”
