Valley View Strong Start Dooms Mercedes

Mercedes Tigers watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 12-0 loss to Valley View on Friday. Valley View scored on a walk by Felipe Chavez, a double by Fernando Rodriguez, a groundout by Esteban Palomo, a single by Eduardo Ortiz, a single by Ricardo Sanchez, and a walk in the first inning.

Valley View took an early lead in the first inning. Felipe Chavez drove in a run when he walked with the bases loaded.

One bright spot for the Tigers was a single by Ryan Reyes in the fourth inning.

Chezzare Gonzalez earned the win for Valley View. He threw five innings, giving up zero runs, four hits, and striking out six. Oliver Closner took the loss for Mercedes. He pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up seven runs, four hits, and striking out one.

Armando Reyes, Closner, Reyes, and Alejandro Cabrera all had one hit to lead Mercedes.

Valley View had 11 hits in the game. Fernando Rodriguez, Esteban Palomo, and Ricardo Sanchez each collected multiple hits for Valley View. Rodriguez led Valley View with three runs batted in. He went 3-for-4 on the day. Valley View didn’t commit a single error in the field. Chavez had the most chances in the field with six.
