Vela Gets Campbell as New Head Coach

Robert Vela has it’s new head football coach and it’s John Campbell.

Many people in the valley might be unfamiliar with Campbell, but from what many experts in the state say, he’s a superb coach.

Campbell coach last year at San Antonio Madison before resigning.

Madison went 4-7 last season, making the playoffs, losing in the first round.

Campbell has college and high school experience.  Prior to taking the job at Madison he was at Texas A&M Commerce where he was the assistant head coach.

He also led Brandeis to the state quarterfinals three times in seven seasons before taking the position with Texas A&M Commerce.

Campbell is Vela’s second head coach, taking over for Michael Salinas who departed for Weslaco earlier this spring.

Salinas grew Vela into a regional powerhouse over his five seasons at Vela going 36-20.
