Woodard Paces Edinburg Past Raiders

By TJ GARCIA

Antoine Woodard’s double-double lead a trio of Bobcats in double figures to get Edinburg past the visiting PSJA North Raiders 61-50 Friday night.

Woodard, a 6-2 sophomore forward, scored 20 points with an array of shots that included put backs, layups, jumpers, a trey and even a highlight real two-handed jam. He also pulled down 13 boards and had 3 blocks.

He and 6-foot-5 big Jesus Cantu (12 rebounds) bothered PSJA North all night. Cantu’s 12 points were all from the paint. He patrolled the lane well for Edinburg (18-4, 5-0) all night.

Still North (20-6, 3-2) had its chances. It fell behind early, down 20-9 in the second only to come back and tie in the third quarter after installing the press.

But North couldn’t sustain even behind the stellar play of Oscar Cantu and his team-high 14 points. Edinburg closed out the game on a few strong runs and held off PSJAN for the district victory.

The tense game was played at a high level through out.
