The biggest job in the Rio Grande Valley has been open since the reassignment of Tony Villarreal on January 30, and it has been quiet.
Rumors have swirled around the Panther job with names popping up daily.
It’s been confirmed that interviews will start next week, what hasn’t been locked up are the candidates.
One name thrown my way was that Scott Ford was a candidate.
The former Los Fresnos, and Hidalgo head coach went 12-1 last season at Elysian Fields.
However, after messaging with Scott Ford, it doesn’t look like that is going to happen.
His son Will is going to be a freshman, so he’s going to stay put for now.
Ford did say, “It’s a great job, but the timing is bad.”
So this leaves everyone wondering who will be the next head coach of the Weslaco Panthers.
Although I have received some names from interested parties, and I know some of the applicants personally, I think I’ll wait for the list to come out.
I can promise you this, two former head coaches look to be at the head of the pack for the job.
