The Harlingen South Hawks will be young once again in 2017. “We are in a very tough district, so our kids must play up to the level of all the other teams in our district,” said Coach Leal. Nick Reasor is a four year starter and Chad Roberts, a two year starter will be the Hawk leaders. Junior Alex De La Cruz has started since his freshman season.   Robert Mejia, Mitch Stone, and Nick Muniz are all sophomores who must mature on the mound in order for them to compete this season. Armando Martinez, Matt Zavala, Marco Gaytan, Edgar Arreola, and Al Castillo will all be valuable members of the Hawk team this season. A couple of freshmen, Enrique Alvarado and Trey Vento, have good talent and could help out in 2017. The Hawks have gone 9-17 (2009) 4th place; 14-16 (2010) 4th place; 19-11 (2011) 4th place; 19-11 (2012) 2nd place; 20-8 (2013) 2nd place; 22-10 (2014) 1st place; 16-7 (2015) 2nd place and last season (11-12) 5th place. The Hawks know that all the teams in the district have talent and they know they must play to their potential in order to reach their goal of making the playoffs in 2017.
