La Joya – The Coyotes were in a position to own sole possession of first place if they could get pass the Nikki Rowe Warriors Tuesday night.
While both teams entered the game undefeated in district play, many had Rowe as the perennial favorites. La Joya hadn’t been in this spot before, playing for 1st place in district.
Rowe would jumped out to an early 8-0 lead in the first quarter, up as much as 10 before finishing the quarter up 14-7.
The Coyotes would come back in the second quarter, capitalizing on a 11-3 run that saw Julio Gonzalez and Jorge Rosales hit big buckets down the stretch.
In the second half, the Coyotes defense controlled the interior and limited good looks for Dominic Clarke, and Rowe found it hard to hit from outside.
La Joya would take the lead at 28-27 and hold onto that lead the rest of the half, extending it to a 13 point lead to end the game 54-41.
