Family, teammates, classmates of Ashley Garcia joined on Thursday night a few hundred community members to mark the life of the slain McHi sophomore softball player.
The vigil took place at the McHi’s softball diamond where classmates and teammates released hundreds of balloons in the air after saying a prayer for Ashley. There were people in the stands and on the dirt infield.
The short ceremony was also attended by McHi school leaders such as Principal Albert Canales, Athletic Coordinator Kevin Brewer, MISD Superintendent Jose Gonzalez and Athletic Director Paula Gonzalez among others.
Softball players from several other schools also showed support by attending the ceremony including those from McAllen Memorial, McAllen Rowe, La Joya, Edinburg, Edinburg North and other schools.
